Become a Concussion Health Certified Concussion Provider(TM)
You have worked hard to establish community credibility with your clinic. You can expand your practice with a combination of training, certification, content, community and online support to provide best practice concussion assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for sports and fall-related injuries. Here is what you will receive when you become a Concussion Health Certified Concussion Provider(TM):
Clinical Training
Given the increased interest in concussion management, you are looking for accessible and affordable tools to support your services as a concussion provider. The educational modules are based on 15 years of direct practical experience and a multi-disciplinary team approach of medical providers experienced in concussion management. The modules will guide you through the process of understanding the impact and risk factors of concussion as well as provide educational tools for assessment and the rehabilitation process to support a comprehensive program. The competency based examination will increase your confidence that you have what it takes to be the concussion leader in your area.
Assessment Training
The challenges facing healthcare providers regarding concussion management is unprecedented, especially considering the changing guidelines as well as legislative mandates regarding return to play decisions. Experts agree that no tool should be used in isolation and that a comprehensive neurological examination be performed with any head trauma. Although computerized testing is considered to provide more objective information, the clinical examination and evaluation is the cornerstone for establishing the most appropriate care plan following the injury. Part of the Concussion Health Program is providing the rationale of clinical testing and how to correlate with more sophisticated technology for you to establish the framework for a comprehensive approach to concussion management. In an effort to provide you with additional resources regarding concussion assessment, you will have access to video files to demonstrate various examination techniques as well as access to other healthcare providers that specialize in concussion management.
Rehabilitation Training
The rehabilitation process regarding concussion management has primarily focused on rest and a graded “step-wise” approach to return to play decisions. Although these are important components of RTP decisions, there has been growing attention towards vestibular (inner ear) rehabilitation. Vestibular rehabilitation is considered a specialty area that is rarely integrated into the sports medicine model. This has resulted in even more challenges regarding best practices for a comprehensive concussion management program. There has been little published in regards to rehabilitation specifically for concussions although rehabilitation for traumatic brain injury and vestibular (inner ear) disorders are well documented. We provide you with clinical algorithms and guidelines that have been used for over 15 years regarding the integration of the well known graded step-wise approach of exertional activities with specialized vestibular/balance exercises.
Enhancement Training
The demands of decreasing the risk of injury as well as optimizing athletic enhancement is ever-increasing. There are a growing number of athletic enhancement centers around the world that focus on the mental and physical aspect of sport-specific activities. The cornerstone of a comprehensive concussion program begins with baseline testing — not only to provide comparative data if an injury occurs but can also be used to identify potential “at risk” indicators as well as establish a framework for athletic enhancement. You will have access to a clinical algorithm to identify possible risk factors as well as opportunities for athletic enhancement in regards to balance and eye-head coordination activities. These same principles can be applied to identifying fall risk in elderly fallers — addressing the impairments before the fall happens.
Continuing Education
Maintaining continuing education requirements can be a challenge due to time and financial constraints. Yet, clinicians recognize that staying current with evolving ideas and trends is part of providing optimal care and being aware of best practices. You will have access to online continuing education courses that are provided by a variety of medical providers.
Co-Branding
Once you have successfully completed the Concussion Health Competency Based Examination, you will be registered as a Certified Concussion Provider(TM) and will be able to leverage the Concussion Health brand in your marketing. The Concussion Health brand indicates to your patients that your diagnosis, rehabilitation and athletic enhancement protocols represent the most comprehensive and clinically supported treatment options.
Ask and Answer
Just as when you started your existing practice, you know that you’ll have lots of questions. The medical and clinical experts at Concussion Health are here to help you with any questions that you may have related to specific patient issues and/or providing insight into new techniques. You will also have access to practice management information (e.g., billing, community outreach, etc.) if so needed. Each Ask and Answer response is assessed to become part of an ever-growing, structured and searchable knowledgebase from which to do research. Ask and Answer will provide you with clinically accurate information and opinion to best service your patients.
Community Forum
When you would like to get a broader perspective or to engage in an on-going dialogue, the active Concussion Health community is connected to each other through a discussion forum. All members are encouraged to introduce a new topic or participate in one of the many existing topics to remain fully informed as this rapidly changing field of study evolves.
Mobile Assessment
Obtaining concussion assessment data from patients outside of the clinic is difficult and asking a patient to remember their symptoms at the time of injury is nearly impossible. PLAY IT SAFE®, is a smartphone-based application that provides a best practice concussion guideline to focus on assessment at time of injury (and post injury) by gathering information about symptoms most commonly associated with a concussion, a series of cognitive questions, balance tests, an exertional test and a dynamic vision (eye-head coordination) test. Test results can be made available to your clinic to chart patient progress over time.
Patient Portal (coming soon)
To expand your practice without significantly increasing your costs, you need self-service tools to help your patients help themselves. Concussion Health provides you with a branded website for your patients to register, provide health history, manage their appointments, manage their medical information and obtain regulatory-compliant return to play releases for their sports organizations. The patient portal increases convenience while letting your staff focus on more valuable tasks.
Patient Administration (coming soon)
To assist with a growing patient list, Concussion Health provides you with a set of administration tools to help you manage your schedule, treatment and enhancement protocols, referrals and overall business assessment. The administrative dashboard gives you the controls you need to efficiently run your expanding concussion practice.
